COMMENTS: Johann Peter Hasenclever (1810-1853) is considered one of Germany's most important genre painters of the 19th century. He influenced important artists such as Carl Spitzweg and Wilhelm Busch. Hasenclever was born in Remscheid and studied at the Düsseldorf Academy under Wilhelm von Schadow. Study visits took him to Munich and Italy. After 1842, he settled in Düsseldorf.
