COMMENTS: Antonis Karafyllakis (Greek School). This painting dates to 1960. Antonios Leonidas Karafyllakis was born April 18, 1908, in Kalymnos, Dodecanese Islands, Greece and died July 7, 1983 in Arlington County, Virginia. At the age of 22 he received a second prize for portraits, and at the age of 23 he received a first prize award for Nude Painting. A year later he received a first prize award for composition. He studied painting and sculpture at the "Superior School of Fine Arts", Athens Greece, graduating in 1934 with honors and the "Averofion Award for Portraiture".
