COMMENTS: Charles Mathew Crocker (1877 - 1950) was known for his landscape paintings. He was born in Illinois to a poor family (living in a log cabin) and began his art career at a teen age and studied painting at the AIC. In 1909 he moved to Oakland California and later moved to Los Angeles in 1919. He returned to Chicago in 1938 where he died on Oct. 18, 1950. Although his work includes portraits and figures, Crocker was primarily a visionary painter of landscapes.
