TITLE: The Three Fates
Early 19th Century engraving by Luigi Bari of Francesco Salviati's Painting of the Three Fates (1545, Florence, Palazzo Pitti). At the time the engraving was produced the "Three Fates" was thought to have been by Michelangelo - hence the notation that translates to "Here Michelangelo painted them and they in harmony gave him mortal life". The story of the Three Fates derives from classical Greek mythology wherein the course of human life was personified by the fates who spun, measured and cut the thread of human existence.
