Circa 1740 Period Portraits of French King Louis XV (1710 - 1774) and French Queen Marie Leszczynski (1704 - 1768).

Both paintings are oil on canvas - relined 75 - 80 years ago, presented in possibly original period gilt wood frames. No apparent signature.

Dimensions: Each painting measuring 25" x 31" Frames measuring 28" x 34".

Louis XV succeeded  to the French throne 1715 at the age of 5 following the death of his great grandfather Louis XIV in . (Louis XV became the Dauphin at the age of 3 following the death of his grandfather from smallpox, and the deaths of his father, mother and older brother of measles, having survived a bout of measles himself.)

The couple were married in 1725 when he was aged 15 and she was aged 21. Marie Leszcynski was the the daughter of Stanislaus I, the deposed King of Poland.
